Pep Guardiola confirms Leroy Sane has returned to Man City training, provides Aymeric Laporte injury update ahead of Tottenham clash

Pep Guardiola says Leroy Sane has returned to training after recovering from a long-term knee injury.

The 24-year-old has not played since damaging his anterior cruciate ligament in City’s Community Shield win over Liverpool last August.

Leroy Sane has been sidelined since August
But he looks set to play a part for City in the second half of the season, including in their Champions League campaign which resumes with a round-of-16 tie against Real Madrid next month.

Guardiola said: “Sane started to train with us, good news. He moved really well, it’s nice to see him back.

“He needs more time, now it’s a bit like Aymer [Aymeric Laporte] – he started [training] two or three weeks before he played at Sheffield [United].”

Sane was strongly linked with a big-money move to Bayern Munich last summer before suffering the injury which resulted in his lengthy spell on the sidelines.

The Bundesliga champions are reportedly planning to renew their interest in the Germany winger, whose City deal runs out at the end of next season.
